Carinya Byron Bay for families
Byron Bay is one of the best locations with so many family activities to keep everyone entertained.
While there’s plenty space in the villas, there are so many things to explore in the surrounding local area. We’ve put together a list recommended activities and restaurants from babies to teens all road tested by us at Carinya.
Beaches: Our favourite is The Pass as it's very kid friendly. It’s the perfect safe spot for little ones to run in and out of the water and normally little waves at the beach edge. It can be difficult to park down there in busy periods so suggest going early or late in the day if it’s school holidays.
The Farm: You can sit at the restaurant as chickens wander past or just walk around the farm. There is no entry free so it is the perfect place to walk around with the kids. They have plenty of animals to see and a good playground. The playground is suited to kids 3+ but there are swings for the little ones. It's pretty muddy when it's wet!
Aboriginal Tour Cape Byron: Embark on a unique tour of Cape Byron with Delta Kay, an Arakwal Bundjalung woman. She runs a 90 minute walking tour that starts at The Pass with opportunities to learn Bundjalung language, bush food and natural medicine.
Pegasus Park: Explore Byron Bay’s hinterland and Beaches on one of their horse riding adventures. They also have pony rides for young kids. Located outside Bangalow just a 10 minute drive from Carinya. Let them know you are from Carinya & they’ll look after you :)
Byron Bay Wildlife Sanctuary: Perfect for little animal lovers, Byron Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is sure to be an action-packed day out for the whole family. Explore the many events on offer, including the Sugar Glider Experience and the Keeper For A Day Holiday Program.
Crystal Castle: You can walk around the gardens and kids love checking out the crystals. They provide umbrellas when it is raining. Adults $49, kids over 4 years old $34.
Circus Arts Byron Bay: For something a bit more active, Circus Arts Byron Bay is a fun and exciting option for families. Located in the Byron Arts & Industry Estate, this circus school offers classes and workshops for all ages and skill levels. Learn how to juggle, swing on the trapeze, or walk the tightrope, and unleash your inner acrobat! They have an indoor play area as well for young kids if you need to escape the rain.
Surf Lessons: Byron Bay is a great spot to learn to surf with the perfect conditions for learner. There are plenty of surf schools in town, we recommend Black Dog Surfing.
Stand up Paddle: Byron Stand Up Paddle, runs tours up the Brunswick River.
Killen Falls (Tintenbar): 15 min drive with a nice swimming hole. It can get very busy in peak summer months, which can make it a bit hard to park close by.
Minyon Falls: 40 min drive away, short & long hike options.
Dolphin sea kayak tour: Go Sea Kayak run group tours in Byron and Brunswick Heads.
Snorkeling with Turtles: 45 min drive up to Fingal Head. Company is Watersports Guru, takes you on a 2 and half hour snorkeling tour.
If you want to get out and about for a meal with the kids while you are staying with us, here are some road tested suggestions for you.
Bangalow
Bangalow Bowlo: Is an easy pub dinner and just 5 minutes from Carinya Byron Bay. They have a large lawn area for the kids to run around on and service is normally pretty quick.
WOODS, behind the main street. It has lots of outdoor seating, very kid friendly for breakfast or lunch. They provide highchairs and kids can play around safely while you eat.
Mangosteen Bangalow: Japanese spot in Bangalow. Great sushi and lovely staff. Perfect if you want to get some takeaway lunch to eat back at your Villa.
Surrounds
Federal Doma: beautiful hinterland drive into Federal. Great sushi and nice to check out the tiny main street.
Hotel Brunswick, in Brunswick Heads. About a 20 minute drive. Great beer garden right near the water. Brunswick is a lovely town to take a walk around in as well.
Eltham Hotel: Hinterland drive into Eltham. Great for a Sunday afternoon drink and feed. Relaxed atmosphere and live music.
Byron Bay
The Farm: Great restaurant by the Three Blue Ducks. You’ll probably have a chicken or two wander past while you eat. There are takeaway food options and also a kid friendly menu
Beach Byron Bay Take Away: Great pastries and bacon & egg rolls. Spots to sit down and eat on the grass and mats. There is a boat and sandpit for kids so it's a perfect spot to have a coffee while they play.
Fishmongers or Fish Heads for fish & chips both in the centre of town. We normally go get takeaway and then sit on the grass in front of the beach next to the surf club.
Top shop: Great breakfast and lunch spot! Must haves are the Acai bowl, Breakfast burger and the Shop Burger. Good for take away and sitting on the grass. It can get very busy over the weekends and is located on a busy intersection.
Beach Hotel: It has had a recent refurbishment. There are lots of tables outside and mats on the floor as well to eat with kids.
