Carinya Byron Bay Accessible Activities & Restaurants

Carinya offers a private, tranquil setting approximately 10 minutes’ drive from Byron’s world-famous beaches, cafes and restaurants, and just 5 minutes away from the picturesque historic town of Bangalow. A short car trip to local venues/places of interest that are wheelchair accessible such as:

Byron Bay Wildlife Sanctuary: Perfect for little animal lovers, Byron Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is sure to be an action-packed day out for the whole family. You can easily fill a morning here. Lots of animals to see and they have a section where kids can pat the small animals. The entire facility is wheelchair friendly.

Victoria Park Nature Reserve in Dalwood has an accessible boardwalk. A 30 minute drive from Carinya. This is a short 15-30 minute walk/wheel. It’s a good activity to combine with other sightseeing in the region.

Byron Bay solar powered train: The train runs along a three-kilometre coastal track, linking the town centre with the North Beach Precinct and Byron Arts Estate. The train takes 10 minutes one way or 25 minutes return.Staff are able to assist passengers with special needs. Ramps are available at both stations and there is an accessible toilet at North Beach Station. There are some narrow doorways so best to get in touch with them directly to ensure access is okay with wheelchairs.

Summerland House Farm set high in the Ballina-Byron hinterland 30 minute drive from Carinya. Lots of kid and family friendly activities. The playground includes a wheelchair accessible carousel and basket swing.

Beaches: Byron Shire Council has a beach wheelchair available for use at Main Beach in Byron Bay and another at Brunswick Heads. Hire of the beach wheelchairs is free.

Crystal Castle: Beautiful gardens feature some of the largest crystals in the world. It is about a 20 minute drive from Carinya. There is disabled parking out the front, an accessible toilet on site, and ramp access into the cafe and shops. Adults $49, kids over 4 years old $34.

Cape Byron Distillery (Brookies Gin): Visit the Cellar Door for a gin tasting. You'll find some Brookies G&T in your Villa when you arrive. Accessible for guests - entrance and seating. There is a gravel driveway but you can park close by. Definitely try their slow Gin with local botanicals.

Jodi from Byron Spa does mobile massages and facials. She can come to the villa and do the treatment there. Best to check out her website or contact her on 0409 491 009, I suggest trying to book a few days in advance.

If you want to get out and about for a meal while you are staying with us here are some restaurants that are accessible. Always best to check with the venue before you visit.

Byron Bay

Beach Byron Bay: You can either eat at the restaurant and take in the beautiful view or just grab a picnic table and have takeaway from their Kiosk. The bacon & egg rolls (the breakfast roll with hash brown in a must) and coffee from the Kiosk is great.

Beach Hotel: It has had a recent refurbishment. Always a lovely spot for a drink and listening to live music which they have on most afternoons and evenings.

Mez Club - Mediterranean Tapas. Great cocktails and if you are having a meal there I highly recommend the halloumi, panzanella salad and the beef short ribs. Ground floor is accessible but can be tight for space.

Bay Grocer - next to the roundabout as you enter Byron. It has pre made sandwiches and salads in the counter at the front. Also has lots of pre-made meals in the fridge inside if you want an easy / yummy dinner one night in the Villa. Also stocks grocery items along with a deli and cheese counter, products are mostly sourced from the local area.

Surrounds

Harvest Restaurant in Newrybar. Beautiful setting in Newrybar, a cute town in the hinterland, a bit expensive but a nice spot for a long lunch. There is also a deli next door if you just want to pick up some things to take back to the Villa. Has parking right out the front and front entrance is accessible.

Hotel Brunswick, in Brunswick Heads. If you want to go for a bit of a drive Brunswick Heads is a lovely town about 20 minutes away. Hotel Brunswick is a great spot to sit and have a meal or just sit for the afternoon, they have great Japanese food Friday - Sunday.

Bar at the Crystalbrook Collection Byron Resort - the restaurant at the resort is a bit hit & miss but there is a lovely deck out the back of the venue that does bar and snack service. Beautiful and relaxing spot to sit with plenty of space and have a cocktail.
